Website Design Statement

Seagull Kebabs & Delights approach to making our website easy to use for everyone

In the creation this website has been designed to be clear, consistent and easy to use for as many users as possible. The accessibility of the site was considered in the development, this includes navigation, forms, images, and the choice of a consitent colour palette.

Using Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as reference, using level A, AA, and AAA as guidelines.

Features Included

Clear structure and navigation

Helping users to navigate with a consistent layout across the site with a shared navigation bar and footer allowing users easy passage throughout pages.

Headings and page structure

Pages use headings to organise information into clear sections so content is easier to scan and understand.

Text alternatives for images

Images used have a text alternitive so people using screen readers can have them described helping users who cannot see the images.

Readable content

Readable font sizing, spacing and clear language has been used to improve usability for a range of users.

Forms and validation

Using forms such as register, contact, review, and checkout include labels and validation messages to help the users understand what information is required.

Keyboard friendly interation

Core interactive elements such as links, buttons and form controls can be accessed using a keyboard.

Responsive design

The layout has an adjustable screen to allow for different screen sizes.

A

The following Level A accessibility considerations have been addressed in this project:

  • Images include alternative text.
  • Pages use headings and structured content.
  • Forms include labels and validation support.
  • Navigation is consistent across the site.
  • Interactive elements such as buttons and links are clearly identifiable.

AA

In addition to Level A requirements, the website also aims to support some Level AA good practice:

  • Colour choices have been selected to improve contrast between text and background.
  • Content is designed to remain readable on different screen sizes.
  • The site layout is consistent, helping users predict where information will appear.
  • Focus states are supported for interactive elements through default and custom styling.

AAA

Full WCAG AAA compliance has not been claimed for this website. However, some design choices support improved accessibility beyond the minimum requirement:

  • Simple language has been used where possible.
  • Buttons and navigation items are large enough to be easier to select.
  • Consistent structure reduces confusion and improves predictability.

Future improvements could include more advanced keyboard testing, additional skip links, and further review of contrast and screen reader behaviour.

Validation and Testing

Accessibility has been reviewed through manual testing during development, including checking page structure, navigation, forms, labels, image alternative text and responsive behaviour.

HTML and CSS validation links are also provided in the site/footer area to support standards checking, which is part of the project requirements. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

Known Limitations

Although accessibility has been considered throughout the website, there are still areas that could be improved further in future development. These may include deeper assistive technology testing, additional keyboard-only testing, and more advanced accessibility enhancements.
